Mossie-GO was created with a core mission - to enhance household protection beyond conventional nets, especially in regions lacking access to electricity. The inspiration behind Mossie-GO stemmed from the pressing need to offer enhanced malaria protection to individuals in rural areas, where the threat of malaria is most acute. Africa Power Ltd., with backing from Innovate UK, collaborated with partners Loughborough University to craft the inaugural Mossie-GO V1 prototype in 2021. This undertaking marked the genesis of an innovative solution designed to address the unique challenges faced by communities vulnerable to malaria, revolutionising conventional approaches to safeguarding against this debilitating disease.

In January 2022, Mossie-GO underwent it’s first clinical testing at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). Results showed that Mossie-GO V1 created a 90% reduction in mosquito bites. With these strong results we undertook plans for wider implementation in high-need areas.

In July 2022, Mossie-GO, in collaboration with Tanzanian NGO Children of Songea, successfully initiated a two-year pilot program to introduce 150 Mossie-GO and Solar Seed systems in the region. The roll-out directly benefited over 750 people in Songea.

Mossie-Go secured funding from Innovate UK’s Biomedical Catalyst to conduct development and updates on Mossie-GO to create it’s V2 iteration. This funding also facilitated the commencement of clinical field trials in Uganda that will involve over 50,000 participants.
V2 underwent free-flight room testing with results showing the device to be more powerful and effective than its predecessor.
These tests were conducted by by Arctech Innovation Ltd. the first spin-out company from LSHTM. Mandated to commercialise insect control products.

Uganda
In May 2024, 18-month clinical field trials will commence in partnership with the Malaria Consortium Uganda and Arctech Innovation to test the efficacy of Mossie-GO in real-world settings. The aim of these trials is to demonstrate and quantify the protective efficacy of Mossie-GO in reducing the incidence of malaria infection in all age-groups.
